FAMU/FGCU PREVIEW

Fort Myers, FL- FGGU begins their 2020-21 season and non-conference schedule at home vs FAMU, Wednesday night, from Alico Arena at 7 PM.

The addition of 6’8 GR F Eli Abaev (Austin Peay), along with 6’5 R-SO G Franco Miller Jr (Ole Miss) bring some athleticism to this team, after losing Zach Scott (McNeese State), Brian Thomas (Grambling State), and others this offseason. 6’8 SO F Dakota Rivers comes into this season even stronger and will be looking for a breakout after putting on over ten pounds of muscle. We expect to see a combination of Dakota and Eli on the top big men in the ASUN, including possible ASUN Player of the Year Ahsan Asadullah from Lipscomb.

ASUN Preseason all-conference team members 6’5 JR G Caleb Catto and 6’3 SR G Jalen Warren will be counted on for this team to succeed in clutch moments and in close games.

Sam Gagliardi and Cyrus Largie could provide minutes to spell Catto and Warren off the bench depending on the lineup in place for FGCU.

FAMU finished 12-15, and were 10-6 in MEAC conference play last season. The Rattlers are led by Head Coach Robert McCullum who has been the coach since 2017.

FAMU stats (19-20 season):

67.6 ppg, 24.6% from the field, 28.4% from beyond the arc, 35.0 rpg, 15.4 turnovers per game, 10.2 assists per game, 7.4 steals per game. 1.9 blocks per game.

6’3 SR G Jalen Warren 10.9 ppg
