FGCU/BCU RECAP

Daytona Beach, FL- FGCU (4-7) won two out of three games this weekend, taking the series vs Bethune Cookman (5-7).

Game 1: FGCU 7 BCU 1

Mason Studstill (2-0) dominated the Wildcats thru 6 innings and Sebastian Gruszecki went 2.2 inning to earn the save as the Eagles cruised to victory. The Eagles were offensively by Joe Kinker (1 HR, 2 RBI’s), Richie Garcia (2 RBI’s), and Marc Coffers (2 RBI’s).

Game 2: FGCU 5 BCU 3 (16)

This game was a marathon. The Eagles were down 2-0 until the 8th inning when Joe Kinker and Brandon Dorsey came through with RBI’s to tie the game up. After that the Eagles went up 3-2 in the 10th until BCU rallied to tie the game up on a Chase Debonis single. Marc Coffers and Richie Garcia drove in the runs to lead the Eagles to the series victory in the 15th inning.

Game 3: BCU 9 FGCU 1

BCU finally got their revenge on FGCU salvaging the final game of the series Sunday afternoon. Joey Mugavero (0-2) allowed 10 hits, and 3 earned runs, in 4 innings of work. FGCU got their lone RBI from Richie Garcia in the 8th inning.

Overview:

FGCU took 2 out of 3 from Bethune Cookman and at this point in non conference play it’s all about winning series. Richie Garcia finished with 4 RBI’s in the series, and Joe Kinker had 3 RBI’s, so the bats are starting to pick up and you’re getting to see the hitters begin to hit for their average in the FGCU lineup.

What’s Next:

FGCU returns home to face Pepperdine University (10-1) Tuesday night at 6:30 PM from Swanson Stadium.
