UNA/#23 FGCU RECAP

Fort Myers,FL- #23 FGCU (27-3, 14-1) was upset by UNA (19-8, 10-5) 61-55 Saturday afternoon at Alico Arena.

Overview:

FGCU suffered their first ASUN conference loss and they have one more game ASUN game at home vs Jacksonville before they can focus on getting ready for the ASUN quarterfinal game vs #8 seed Lipscomb at Alico Arena.

This was a game where UNA had it’s largest lead of the game at 10 points and the Eagles were able to get the lead down to 3 points at halftime. The Wallen twins combined for 36 points and were the X factor in the game for UNA. FGCU was led by Keri Jewett-Giles who scored 19 points and two other Eagles finished in double figures including Davion Wingate (13 points) and Kerstie Phills (11 points)

Stats:

FGCU shot only 25.7% from the field (19/74), 20% from beyond the arc (7/35), and were outrebounded by the Lions 43-41. The Eagles dished out 7 assists and defensively had 13 steals and 1 block in the game. FGCU forced 21 Lions team turnovers only had 8 team turnovers of their own.

What’s Next:

FGCU faces Jacksonville University (18-10, 10-5) at home, Monday night, for Senior night, in the final ASUN regular season matchup before the ASUN tournament.
