KSU/FGCU RECAP

Fort Myers, FL- FGCU (1-6) lost the series this weekend to Kent State (4-3) losing of two of three games at home.

Game 1 (FGCU 2 KSU 0):

W-Mason Studstill (1-0)

L-Luke Albright (0-2)

S-Hunter McGarry (1)

Coach Tollett won his 600th career game at home Friday night. Mason Studstill pitched a line of 6.2 IP, allowed 3 hits on 0 runs while striking out 6 Flashes and walking only one batter. Hunter McGary earned his first save of the season finishing where Studstill left off pitching 2.1 IP, allowing 2 hits and striking out 3 batters. The Eagles got RBI’s from Joe Kinker (sac fly) and Elijah Eusebio (rbi single).

Game 2 (KSU 9 FGCU 2):

W-Collin Romel (1-0)

L-Gus Carter (0-1)

The Eagles used 6 pitchers in the ballgame and Gus Carter lasted only 1.1 IP, allowing 3 runs (2 ER), on 2 hits, striking out 1 and walking 3 Golden Flashes. Collin Romel went 5 IP, allowing 3 hits, 0 runs, and struck out 6 Eagles. Johnny Long and PJ Cimo provided the 2 RBI’s in the game for the Eagles. FGCU had 5 errors in the game which is very uncharacteristic for the Eagles.

Game 3 (KSU 4 FGCU 0):

W-Ryan Lane (2-0)

L-Joey Mugavero (0-1)

The Eagles dropped the final game of the series and were stymied by Ryan Lane who pitched 8.1 IP, allowing 3 hits, striking out 10 Eagles, allowing no runs and no walks. Joey Mugavero lasted 5.2 IP, allowing 2 runs (1 ER), 5 hits, striking out 2 Golden Flashes and walking none. The Eagles had 3 errors in the game.

Perspective on the Series:

FGCU dropped to 1-6 on the season and in the series with Kent State had 8 errors. The Eagles also only scored 4 runs in the 3 game series. It is frustrating to see the team struggle like this at home and overall but the season is a grind and we will look for them to finish out this homestand vs Eastern Michigan with a win.

FGCU remains at home and face Eastern Michigan (1-5) Tuesday night (2/25) from Swanson Stsdium at 6:30 PM
