FGCU/JU RECAP

Jacksonville, FL- FGCU (7-16, 4-4) gets back on track Thursday night with a 63-61 win over Jacksonville University (10-13, 3-5) from Historic Swisher Gymnasium.

The Eagles at one point gave up a 10 point lead in this game but were able to persevere in a close game and win their 2nd road game of the season on a Jalen Warren runner with 3 seconds left in the game. This was a came FGCU had complete control of in the 2nd half but Jacksonville kept answering in the final minutes of the game.

It was a different looking starting lineup tonight with Zach Scott returning back to the lineup taking Sam Gagliardi’s spot Thursday night. Sam provided a spark off the bench in a 6th man role, finally hit some 3’s and finishing with 6 points in the game. Brian Thomas looked healthier and finished playing 23 minutes in the game and spent more time in the game than Justus Rainwater did (16 minutes, 0 pts). The Eagles brought the 3 ball back into their arsenal by making 10 3’s which kept them in the game since the Dolphins hit 8 of their own. FGCU cut down on turnovers in this game too which is a huge deal for them and only had 7 team turnovers in the game.

Jalen Warren who you love and hate sometimes with his play in games proved to be the hero once again in a close game and had a solid scoring game while also hit some 3’s tonight (2/3 from beyond the arc) which usually isn’t his game.

Stats:

FGCU shot 39% from the field (23/59), 35.7% from beyond the arc (10/28), and tied the Dolphins with 38 rebounds in the games. The Eagles dished out assists and on the defensive end of the ball had 4 steals and 4 blocks in the game. FGCU forced 9 JU turnovers while only having 7 team turnovers of their own tonight.

Outstanding Players (FGCU):

Caleb Catto 20 pts, 5 rebounds
