NJIT/FGCU RECAP

Fort Myers, FL- FGCU (6-16, 3-4) dropped their 2nd ASUN game in a row Saturday night vs NJIT (7-13, 4-3) 56-54.

Overview:

Zach Cooks gave FGCU all they could handle in the 1st half of this game scoring 21 of his 25 points in the 1st half. Shyquan Gibbs who usually starts games slow had a huge 2nd half to help pace the Highlanders with a box and 1 defense holding Cooks in check.

FGCU had a chance to tie the game and Jalen Warren was unable to hit a jumper near the basket. He rebounded the ball and attempted a layup that went in but was past the buzzer. It’s a frustrating loss for FGCU who had a chance to really make a move in the ASUN with Liberty losing their 2nd ASUN game in a row vs Stetson on the road (48-43) and UNF losing to Lipscomb on the road (85-73). There is currently a 3 way tie for 1st place with UNF, Stetson, and Liberty all sitting above the rest of the ASUN at 5-2 respectfully.

Stats:

FGCU shot 46.7% from the field (21/45), 46.7% from beyond the arc (7/15), and were outrebounded 29-22 by the Highlanders. The Eagles dished out 11 assists, and on the defensive end of the ball had 6 steals, and forced 13 NJIT turnovers. The Eagles had 8 team turnovers which is a step in the right direction.
