Fort Myers, FL- The Liberty Flames (15-1, 1-0 ASUN) continued their dominant season with a 59-46 win over FGCU (3-13, 0-1 ASUN). Liberty was led by Caleb Homesley, who finished with a game high 24 points. Scottie James was also in double figures for the Flames finishing with 10 points. FGCU was led by Sam Gagliardi who finished with 14 points (4/6 from 3).
A poor first half offensively for FGCU was the difference in this game. The Eagles struggled finding any chemistry on the court and couldn’t go on a run of any sort offensively. Zach Scott was not in the starting lineup tonight and Jalen Warren took his spot and finished with 12 points in 35 minutes. With Zach out of the lineup, the offense had no flow to it in the 1st half. Uptempo basketball and a nice run finally came for the Eagles but it was too little too late against a Liberty team that runs a Princeton offense with an emphasis on slowing down the game once they earn a lead.
Stats:
FGCU shot 40% from the field (16/40), 26% from the 3 point line (5/19), and outrebounded Liberty 26-22. The Eagles forced 10 turnovers, and finished with 10 assists, while forcing 4 steals, and earning 4 blocks on the defensive side of the ball. FGCU finished with 18 team turnovers.
