Fort Myers, FL- FGCU dropped to 2-10 on the season after losing another heartbreaker to Robert Morris University (3-9) at Alico Arena, Saturday evening, 64-59.
The Colonials were led in points by Josh Williams (16 points) while Jalen Hawkins (12 points) and AJ Bramah (12 points) also finished in double figures for RMU. FGCU was led by Zach Scott who finished with 14 points.
Key Stats (RMU):
Colonials shot 38% from field (20/52) 40% from 3 (8/20), dished out 12 assists, and finished with 12 team turnovers. RMU grabbed 36 team rebounds.
Key Stats (FGCU):
Eagles shot 38% from field (22/57), 23% from 3 (8/35), dished out 17 assists, and finished with 12 team turnovers. FGCU grabbed 33 team rebounds and also blocked 6 RMU shots.
Analysis:
The 12 team turnovers were almost half of what we saw earlier this week on the road vs FIU. This was a super winnable game and the easiest Division I game left on the non conference schedule for the Eagles.
Letting this one get away late makes us wonder does FGCU have that killer instinct to put games away when needed and who can be counted on for that last shot?
Zach Scott was back in double figures scoring wise for the second straight game for FGCU and Justus Rainwater had another solid game down low in the post finishing with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Jalen Warren was back in double figures scoring 12 points but still turned the ball over 4 times.
What’s Next?
FGCU hosts St Thomas University on 12/21 at 7 PM at Alico Arena. St Thomas, an NAIA team, currently play in The Sun Conference and their record stands at 4-2 overall. No excuses for FGCU, need to make a statement in this game and take care of business at home.
